My client brought her go-to lipstick, which we swatched on her skin for reference. The far-right shade was our starting point, and after carefully blending pigments, we selected the near-left shade as the ideal match. Image 3 Precision is key when mapping the lips. Staying within the vermillion border, we carefully designed the perfect shape to complement my client’s natural lip contours. Image 4 Immediately after the procedure, the pigment appears deeper than the initial swatch. Some minor bruising is present, which is completely normal and will subside within 24 hours. Different skin types retain pigment at varying rates, and several factors can influence this, including skin type, skincare routines, and environmental conditions. Typically, fading begins in the center of the lip, as this area experiences more contact with food, drinks, and saliva. While working on this top-up, I started with the lower lip, as it had experienced more fading. You can see that the outline had faded and shrunk slightly, so I focused on creating the perfect shape. After drawing the outline, I finished by blushing pigment through the entire lip. F R E S H 💦 Do you want to change the colour? Absolutely! If you ever feel like switching up the color during your yearly touch-up, of course this is doable. It’s often just a little adjustment, like in the case of my client here. She initially picked the stunning Pink Coral by Tina Davis, but for this touch-up, she wanted to transition to more of a pinky lip tone and lessen the orange. I believe it was an excellent decision as the new color looks absolutely stunning. We used Passion by Everafter, which has a blue undertone to neutralize any remaining orange. Its thickness and excessive oil production create more resistance to the needle, making it harder to deposit the pigment. On the other hand, mature skin presents its own set of challenges. Thin skin can tear easily, care needs to be made to avoid this, while thicker, aged, sun-damaged skin can resist the needle, affecting the pigment flow. The impact of skin type doesn’t end there. The way the tattoo heals can also vary depending on the client’s skin type. Some clients may end up with fine, crisp hair strokes, while others may experience slightly blurred hair strokes. 💋A beautiful lip blush to restore the natural shape of my client's lips. Over time our lips will lose volume. The loss of pigment on the vermillion border will also appear to make your lips seem smaller. You can see from the first image where pigment has been lost, the lip tissue is still present but without colour (lip pigment) it gives the appearance of a smaller lip. 💜Let’s talk bruising?💜 • So, as much as I hate to admit it, my clients from time to time can bruise..there can be different factors.. Are the lips dry, has the needle snagged on the lip? Did your client drink alcohol or caffeine in the last 24 hours? Medication? How has their day been, I find stress can play a part in this. Does your clients suffer with cold sores? Colour choice? This does not create bruising but can give the impression of a darker lip, especially if the under tones are blue/mauve. However, even if you have answered no to the above, It can just be one of those things. • I have attached three images. First Image • Immediately after treatment, lower lip showing slight bruising in the middle and the colour looking more to a wine colour, this is the cinnamon showing through. Second Image• Client healed, 4 weeks after treatment. No sign of bruising or trauma, and pigment has healed true to colour. Third Image• Immediately after follow up. I left out Cinnamon in the follow-up, went straight with pink coral. Cinnamon can cause the lip to look more wine at the beginning due to the under tones of mauve. Notice, no swelling or bruising. 🤎Eyebrows🤎 • I know not all permanent makeup artist take on clients when they have had previous work, I have been known to turn clients away too. Laser is a good alternative to remove the old pigment which I have recommended in some cases, however, this can be costly. After an initial consultation, I agreed to work on my clients brows. My clients eyebrows were fine, I have definitely seen worse! 🫣 My client asked me where I could improve on the shape, and I also asked my client what she wanted from the outcome too. We both agreed a fuller brow, creating more of an arch would be a great shape for her. She was also happy to go a little shade darker in colour. We are both thrilled with the results.
